As communities come together to speak out against racial injustices in our society, more and more people are finding themselves interacting with law enforcement. For some, these encounters are more of the same; for others, it is confronting law enforcement in a way that is new and unusual. Anytime you interact with law enforcement, it is important to keep in mind how you are being perceived by them: are you a concerned citizen, a witness, or a potential suspect?
Understanding and appreciating your rights while demonstrating is important because it’s what could keep you out of jail, prevent the police from making a case against you, or delivering the evidence needed to convict you in court.
